Our Adventure Continues

The 2009 excavation season is now upon us! Last year over 500+ coins and  interesting artifact were found by JWI. An item of particular interest, an encrusted silver or pewter chalice, looking like the holy grail was taken to the state for evaluation and preservation.  It turned out to be of modern origin!   There is rarely a day - when the weather is right - divers go out on the wreck that artifacts or even silver pieces of eight are not found.

New technology will be put to the test in the months to come. Fall & winter storm events limit diving and cause severe erosion - emphasizing the need for emergency dune restoration projects.  Over 200,000 cubic yards of sand has just been pumped from the Jupiter Inlet Sand Trap and placed on the beach just in front of our shipwreck site.  It looks as though the beaches are washing away, but they aren't. Some of this new sand further covers our shipwreck site!   We still contend – in sand overburden depths exceeding 15 feet, that it is better to use a combination of diver operated suction dredge devices with deflectors instead of just larger blowers.  A good percentage of artifacts and coins are blown all over the site as one uses the pressure of a large column of water to push a deep hole into the overburden in the pursuit of treasures beneath the sea.

We are proceeding with this in mind.   Captain Dom is focusing on attempting to convince the government of the benefits to using this sand and overburden for dune and beach restoration...  The idea is finally beginning to catch on!

Funding is always an issue.   We bit the bullet and went to the credit cards for the retooling of our equipment and we are now out of the shipyard. Additional funding is needed to cover our 2008 crew, fuel, insurance, stores and for and continued operations.  AT&T and the "Real Yellow Pages" may well be an active sponsor in 2008 / 2009 but the dive season is upon us and we need to get out and work.  A limited number of shares of our (Jupiter Coins LLC) net recoveries from the upcoming - 2008 excavation season may be available for purchase.   If you have interest in participating in this unique adventure please contact us at: info@jupitercoins.com
